The Postgraduate Medical Council of WA (PMCWA), together with the AMA (WA), recently hosted the 2026 Medical Careers Expo at The University Club of WA.
The annual event once again provided medical students and doctors in training with a valuable opportunity to explore future training pathways and career options across a broad range of medical specialties. With more than 30 exhibitors in attendance, participants were able to engage directly with doctors in training, college representatives, health services and professional organisations, while enjoying informal networking in the exhibition space.
The evening commenced with a welcome from PMCWA Medical Advisor Dr Chris Wilson, followed by an Intern Application Information Session presented by Dr Wilson and Dr Alexandra Cowan, Co‑Chair of the PMCWA JMO Forum. Representatives from 2026 intern employers also shared insights into the application process.
A series of specialty presentations followed, with the Keynote Presentation on Paediatrics and Medical Administration given by Dr Jemma Hogan, the 2025 Junior Doctor of the Year at the AMA (WA) Awards. She was followed by clinicians from Public Health, Psychiatry, General Practice, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Surgery and Physician training. They provided first‑hand insights into their career journeys, what drew them to their chosen specialties, and what junior doctors can expect from training programs and application pathways.
Throughout the Expo, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, seek tailored advice and build connections that will support their future career decisions. The strong turnout and lively engagement reinforced the Expo’s reputation as a flagship career development event for Western Australia’s medical students and junior doctors.
