I had travelled to Europe to take in some of the Continent’s great motoring events, and to see car museums and collections and great driving roads. The comments from discussions with fellow enthusiasts was always, “I wish I could do those things.”
So, I began putting together ideas for a tour for like-minded people and their partners – to include such attractions, as well as the wonderful scenery and tourist destinations on offer. That was over 20 years ago, and I’ve been hosting these tours ever since.
Never doing the same itinerary twice has meant several people have joined the group more than once.
Highlight events have included the Monaco Grand Prix, Mille Miglia historic road race, the Concorso at Villa d’Este, and the Paris Motor Show. We’ve had car factory tours, visited the greatest car museums, some private collections, and had experiences such as racetrack drives and dinners with notable motoring identities.
Best described as self-drive guided tours, we use rental cars to drive between destinations – next year taking in France, Italy, Germany, Monaco, and a bit of Belgium.
The June 2027 itinerary includes seeing the start of the Mille Miglia in Brescia, northern Italy, where 400 sporting cars converge from around the world to do a commemoration of the original 1927-1957 road race. It is the 100th anniversary event in 2027.
We have a Ferrari driving experience in Maranello, home of the famous Italian marque. A track day at Spa Francorchamp, where participants drive with guidance from an expert around the fastest Grand Prix circuit.
Museum visits include Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Porsche, national car museums in Italy, Monaco, and the newly opened one in Germany.
A key to the success of these tours is the flexibility built in. While the hotels, restaurants and highlight destinations are pre-planned, there are lots of options en route and the ability to adapt activities to suit – plus free time.
Travelling in your own car gives you the ultimate freedom. A special Roadbook is produced with lots of guidance and details for participants. And I provide a guiding hand along the way.
Partners often end up very pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoy the tours, as they are not all car-focused, and we visit some wonderful places.
